Family Photographer

Dorset and Somerset

Hi there! I'm Amelia and I'm a family, maternity and baby photographer in Dorset and Somerset.

I grew up here and I've chosen to raise my son Frankie in Dorset, surrounded by this incredible outdoor playground. We spend our weekends paddling the jurassic coast, cycling through the Blackmore Vale and like many of us, travelling from town to town for football matches!

While my number one goal is to make beautiful wall-worthy shots of you and your favourite people, ensuring everyone has a blast during our photo shoot comes a very close second. My shoots are about laughter, adventure and play. No 'Say Cheese', no '1,2,3, smile'... we'll play games, and let the kids lead, to get photos that convey the warmth and love of your tribe.

Let’s face it, kids can be wild and full of energy! That's why I love working with families so much! My family photography sessions are a perfect outlet for their never-ending enthusiasm. Instead of trying to keep them sitting still inside a studio, they’re welcome to run, jump, explore, and play freely in our great outdoors.  It’s a win-win situation, memorable photos and happy children!

The page below will tell you everything you need to know about a family shoot with me- if you have any questions please do get in touch.

A young boy holding both his parents hands smiles and looks straight at the camera on a boardwalk in Upton Park, Poole, Dorset
A mother and daughter hug. The daughter is looking straight at the camera and the mother is looking at her daughter. They are in Moors Valley Country Park.
A beautiful young family stand on a pathway in Avon Heath posing for a photo. The parents are holding their 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter.
A Father carries his 7 year old daughter on his shoulders. She is looking down at him and he's looking up at her. They are in the countryside.
A mother holds her daughter's hand and looks over her shoulder in the sand dunes at Studland Beach, Dorset.
A girl stands in front of her parents. We can't see her parents heads. She is laughing. There are autumnal leaves on the ground in the background. They're in Blandford Forest.
A boy smiles at the camera whilst holding a tiger soft toy. His two brothers are blurred in the background. He's in Upton Country Park, Poole.
A family of five stand in a straight line behind some long grass at Moors Valley Country Park. They are all looking at the 10 year old daughter who is grinning at the camera.

Your family. Your story. Let's do it!

I usually do family photoshoots outside, in your favourite happy place so that your kids feel comfortable. If you're not sure where you'd like to be photographed I have lots of secret locations up my sleeve. It's one of the perks of having cycled and photographed my way around the South West!

I am used to working with kids and will make them feel relaxed, and so will you. We'll take our time (or get everything done quickly, depending on the needs of your family!), climb trees, clamber over rocks and look for shells. We'll paddle in the waves, run through sand dunes and skip through fields of grass. If we can we'll stop for ice creams or a hot chocolate. And we'll definitely stop for cuddles.

Once we've exhausted the kids I'll head back to my studio to edit your images. I spend a great deal of time lovingly editing the images. The hours spent in post-production will result in a set of striking images which will look beautiful printed as a set.

Here's the biggy: You will receive 50+ images from our shoot. No hard sell. No paying for extra images. I believe the photos I take should be adorning your walls and making you smile. Not sitting on my hard drive.

My family package should cover everything you need, but if you’re looking for a photographer for a specific event or something a little different, get in touch so we can work something out. Though I love families and LOVE babies, I also photograph schools, portraits and events.  You can see my food, drink and hospitality work here: www.ameliajohnson.com
